A Scottish couple was knocked down by a concrete mixer truck on their way to their hotel yesterday evening in the Black Sea resort Sveti Vlas. The woman, 64, died of her wounds and her husband, 56, is currently in the Burgas hospital with multiple injuries. He is in shock, but his life is not in danger. Construction in the resorts is forbidden during the summer season. However, it is still being held illegally, with heavy machinery entering holiday zones in nighttime. The driver of the concrete mixer tried to enter Sveti Vlas without stopping at the traffic police control station. In his effort to flee them, he lost control over the vehicle, which crashed into a building and rolled over. Until late at night a car crane was unable to pull up the machine. This is not the first accident at Bulgaria's seaside involving foreigners. Last year in July a 21-year-old Belgian woman died in a car crash on the road between Primorsko and Sozopol near Ropotamo river. She was run over by a Porsche racing at extremely high speed. In July 2007 a Swedish man was beaten to death by disco bodyguards in the Nesebar sea resort. Witnesses of the accident have video materials, according to which the police did not try to intervene in the fight.
