I have had no bad experiences in my relations with the Bulgarian peasants. However, collecting research material is not easy because Bulgarian peasants are suspicious and mistrustful of strangers; they would often think that your questions disguise a financial reason or that you are after a treasure trove. Your success in this country will depend on your familiarity with it as well as your on your ability to communicate with the simple locals. Very often I would learn the important things as late as my second or third visit to the same place.
