I
have had no bad experiences in my relations with the Bulgarian
peasants. However, collecting research material is not easy because
Bulgarian peasants are suspicious and mistrustful of strangers; they
would often think that your questions disguise a financial reason or
that you are after a treasure trove. Your success in this country will
depend on your familiarity with it as well as your on your ability to
communicate with the simple locals. Very often I would learn the
important things as late as my second or third visit to the same place.
