Your ruminations about Ronald Reagan might be true, although the comparison between him and the current Bulgarian prime minister is a bit farfetched, even when adjusted to Bulgarian dimensions.
However, you seem to have missed the point of the Bulgarian experience completely. Boyko Borisov is nowhere near Ronald Reagan because Ronald Reagan delivered, while B. B. just barks.
Professor Daynov is absolutely right. He is Oxford-educated and sees things from a different perspective, whilst B. B. is a former fireman with a very murky past. If he was a politician anywhere in Europe, perhaps outside Albania, he would have been consigned to the dustbin of history a long time ago. If he were in the United States, he would have been talking to the DA. Quote
When Ronald Reagan, the movie actor, took over the US Government in 1980 - in the time of one of the biggest crises of the USA - he swung things around. He was not a "scientist" like you. He was a simple man - but with a conviction. And he gave people confidence.
And I feel that B.B. is a bit like him. No single statesman can change the fate of a country. Because all depends on the long established administration (just look at the fate of Simeon who came back to Bulgaria full with expectations, without realising how we tick here).
B.B. gives people the feeling that he cares for them and that he is not corrupt. What more can you ask for, Herr Scientist?! It's not about concepts - it's about the people! They have been abused for such a long time. Yes, maybe they are stupid. That's why they even more need a strong hand at the helmet. Someone who is down to the ground , speaks their language, shares their goals and gives them something to identify themselves with.
You, gospodin Daynov, are just a remnant of the past - and probably pissed off because you are not an important person anymore… Quote
