In recent years, however, it has developed as a major village tourism resort where the restaurants and the cafés outnumber the old picture-postcard babas – and it is diffi cult to fi nd parking space. Yet, despite the huge development, the place does retain some of its erstwhile charm. And of course, now it has some Bulgarian-style multi-star hotels.
WHERE IN BULGARIA ARE YOU?
WHO WINS A WEEKEND FOR TWO?
Nataliya Nikolova from Varna guessed correctly that Demir Baba Tekke, in Sboryanovo Archaeological Reserve, is the answer to the "Where in Bulgaria are you?" quiz in Vagabond No 65 and won a weekend in Kralev Dvor Hotel. Politologist by education, Nataliya is researching migration for Bulgarian and Belgian organisations. She visited Demir Baba Tekke last year, on her traditional August trip around Bulgaria. Nesebar, with its UNESCO-enlisted churches, is one of her favourite destinations in Bulgaria. Nataliya says Vagabond is the only publication she still reads in print, because of its brilliant English language and its devotion to criticise Bulgarian status quo.
