WHERE IN BULGARIA ARE YOU?

If you have lived long enough in Bulgaria, you have probably noticed that whenever there is an odd rock formation it turns out out to be either a Thracian sanctuary or the subject of a sinister legend - usually involving Bulgarians maids jumping off a cliff to avoid captivity by bloodthirsty Turks.

The rocks in this picture are not an exception.

In the middle ages, there was a fortress close by. Today they rise by a sleepy village which you cannot miss if you are heading for a visit to Bulgaria's biggest and most famous monastery. Yet, according to a local legend they are an ill-fated wedding party turned to stone.
