There is no chance anyone has crossed this pontoon bridge on their own volition. It leads to an island in the Danube, which during Communism was a political prisoners' camp.

Today a part of it is still a prison facility. Gates are opened to the public only once a year, for an annual commemoration for the victims of Communism.

The island is also a nature park for its wetlands wildlife. It is a stone's throw from that Bulgarian town where a second nuclear power plant will or will not be erected.
